Education: Tim graduated from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He has been serving the people of DeKalb County since that time, taking his first job as Director of Physical Therapy at Sandwich Community Hospital. He accepted a position as Chief Physical Therapist at Northern Illinois University in 1976. The private practice was established in 1978. Tim moved the practice to its current location at 3266 Resource Parkway in 1995. He has completed many advanced courses in treatment of orthopaedic conditions, including study at the Rehab Institute in Chicago, Emory University, and Northwestern University. Clinically: Tim enjoys working with a varied caseload of orthopaedic and medical conditions. He divides his clinical duties between the DeKalb and Rochelle offices. Socially: Tim and his wife Susan live in DeKalb. Their daughters Kelly and Sara attend college; while daughter Emily works in DeKalb.
Education: Ken Olson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 1988, a Master of Science in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from University of St. Augustine in 1994, and a Doctorate of Health Science degree from the University of St. Augustine in 2003. He is also a graduate of the University of St. Augustine's Manual Therapy Fellowship Program. Ken is author of the textbook Manual Physical Therapy of the Spine, published in 2008 by Mosby, Elsevier; St. Louis. Clinically: Ken's clinical interests are in the management of patients with spinal, extremity, and temporomandibular dysfunctions with a combination of manual therapy and exercise. His research interests are in the reliability, validity, effectiveness, and instruction of orthopaedic manual therapy procedures. Socially: During his free time, Ken enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his children's little league sports teams. He also sings in a church choir in Sycamore and is an active member of the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club.
Education: Denny graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 1997 and received his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certificate in 1999. He became a board certified specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy in 2003. Denny also teaches continuing education courses to health care professionals and has attended numerous courses on advanced orthopaedic, manual therapy, orthotic, and functional training techniques. Clinically: Denny enjoys patients with complex lower extremity, spine, or upper extremity dysfunctions and utilizes a combination of manual therapy, functional exercise, kinesio tape, and orthotics for treatment. Socially: Denny enjoys spending free time with his wife, Theresa, daughter, Katelyn, and son Sean. He believes in the power of prayer, exercise, and laughter.
Education: Rob graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University. He has advanced training in Aquatic Therapy, treatment of Biomechanical Dysfunction and Industrial Rehabilitation. Rob also serves as a Physical Therapist in the Alabama National Guard with the 20th Special Forces Group. Clinically: Rob's main interest is in treatment of Biomechanical Dysfunction, Industrial Rehabilitation and Aquatic Therapy. Rob has taken continuing education courses on Performing Functional Capacity Evaluations and Work Hardening and Work Conditioning. Socially: During his free time Rob enjoys spending time with his family. Rob is involved with his church in DeKalb where he teaches Sunday school. He also likes to exercise and participates in sprint distance triathlons.
Education: Melissa graduated in December 2001 from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. At Washington University, she was trained in the concept of movement impairment syndromes, with an emphasis on human movement analysis. Melissa graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. in Exercise Science in 1998. In 1997, she received her certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She has attended several continuing education courses related to manual therapy treatment and sports/work-related injuries. Clinically: Melissa enjoys seeing a varied case load with an emphasis on sports and orthopaedic injuries. She has a special interest in the prevention of osteoporosis and designed Northern Rehab's “Bone Building & Balance” class. She is the lead physical therapist at Northern Rehab's satellite clinic in Genoa. The Genoa location has been open since January 2005. Socially: Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time working on her family farm, training for 10K races, and kayaking. She enjoys providing physical therapy services to the community in which she grew up.
Education: Aaron joined the professional staff at Northern Rehab after receiving his Master of Physical Therapy Degree from Northern Illinois University in the spring of 2002. In 2008, Aaron earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Regis University in Denver, CO. Aaron has also completed various courses focusing on evaluation and treatment of the spine, foot and ankle, knee and shoulder. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. Aaron has served on the Kishwaukee Family Board of Directors for the last 3 years. Clinically: Aaron enjoys seeing a varied caseload of orthopaedic conditions. His main professional interests lie in using manual therapy and exercise in the treatment of patients with spinal and extremity disorders. Socially: Aaron enjoys spending time on the ski slopes, golf course and on his bike. He has lived in the DeKalb/Sycamore region for 10 years and looks forward to serving the needs of the community.
Education: Melissa graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Master in Physical Therapy in Spring of 2006. She also received her Bachelor of Health Science from NIU. In 2002, Melissa earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion from the University of Iowa, as well as a Minor in Aging Studies. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Young Professionals of Sycamore, DeKalb County Panhellenic, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, and DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy Class of 2008. Clinically: Melissa is interested in treating a diverse range of sport and orthopedic injuries, varied diagnoses and patients of all ages. She has continued her education in orthopedic and sport conditions, and enjoys treating extremity and spine disorders through manual therapy and therapeutic exercise. Socially: Melissa was raised and lives in DeKalb with her husband Zach. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her personal interests include home renovation, reading, knitting and traveling. In the summer, you can find her outdoors: kayaking, camping, fishing, hiking or playing with her dogs Ozzie and Rudy.
Education: Kristin graduated from Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, IA with her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2004. She has completed education courses on the evaluation and treatment of the dizziness disorders, manual/ manipulative therapy for the spine, Tai Chi for rehabilitation and balance, and Movement System Impairment analysis and treatment for the upper and lower quadrants. Clinically: Prior to joining our team at Northern Rehab and Sports Medicine Associates, Kristin worked for 2.5 years for a hospital-owned outpatient rehab facility in Rock Island, IL where she gained experience with aquatic therapy, vestibular (dizziness) rehab, manual therapy, and a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation. Kristin's primary clinical interests include the evaluation and treatment of neck and back pain, sacroiliac joint disorders, and vestibular and balance disorders. She enjoys using an evidence-based approach to develop and implement various treatment techniques. Socially: Outside of work, Kristin enjoys Tae Kwon Do, singing, rollerblading, hiking, camping and fishing, and spending time with her family (especially her niece and nephews).
Education: Alicja received her B. A. degrees in Psychology and Anthropology from Northern Illinois University in 2005. While working on her degrees, she competed for NIU track and cross country teams and was named the 2005 Female Athlete of the Year. After her collegiate career, she gained two years of Division I coaching experience as NIU track and cross country coach. Currently, she is a member of American College of Sports Medicine and holds the USA Track and Field Level I Coaching Certification. Clinically: Alicja Stannard joined Northern Rehab in the Fall of 2007 after receiving her Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Northern Illinois University. At Northern Rehab, Alicja has been coordinating Performance Enhancement programs as well as conducting educational seminars on training and performance enhancement for local coaches and athletes of all ages. In the clinic, Alicja has been working with post-rehabilitation individuals on implementing personalized exercise programs. Socially: Alicja enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors: hiking, biking or camping. She also trains for running races ranging from 5K to marathon.
