Physical therapy treatment addresses foot pain by assessing the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, bones, and joints in that region of the body.  Foot pain may also accompany lower leg, knee, ankle pain, or secondary problems with diabetes or stroke.  Common causes of foot pain include plantar fasciitis, bunions, fallen arches, fracture, and arthritis.  Poor shoe wear and fit, aging, and overweight are factors contributing to foot pain.  You should seek a physical therapist to relieve your foot pain if you have difficulty walking or running, stiffness in your feet, especially in the morning, pain in your heels, or weakness.  Your physical therapist can evaluate your walking/running pattern (gait analysis), custom fit you with orthotics, assess your shoe wear, and instruct you on proper stretching and strengthening to address muscle imbalances in the ankle/foot.
